Due to Ford creating the Mustang in 1964 and it selling so well on the market, Chevrolet Motors was greatly inspired to create a car that would be somewhat similar to the look, speed and price of the Mustang. These vehicles that were created to compete against the Mustang for design and speed were called “pony cars.”
Chevrolet’s first response to the Ford’s youth attracting vehicle was the Super Nova, which is a concept car based off of the Chevy II. Chevrolet soon realized that this was not the best way to compete against the Mustang, so they created a new vehicle in its entirety, the Camaro.
