1978 was a year that several changes took place to the Camaro, some were:
· Aluminum front and rear bumpers replaced by body-color bumpers
· Fewer horizontal lines in grille
· Wedge-shaped wrap-around taillights were introduced
· Rally Sport became a model rather than an option
· T-Tops were introduced
These changes must have had a great influence on sports-car buyers because the Camaro did extremely well in sales in 1978, with 272,631 units sold. The two-millionth Camaro was produced on May 11, 1978.
The Berlinetta was a Camaro model that replaced the LT in 1979. There were only a few changes that made their way through this new design. The three changes were a unique pin striping, a bright grille, and black rocker panels.
Chevrolet knew that the next generation of Camaro was coming out in two years so it decided to keep the car the same except for a couple modifications. The exceptions were a modified grille and some engine tune-ups that would create better gas mileage for the vehicle.
